Dating Online Recap
Have you ever considered online dating? Well these are my experiences. I'll give them names according to how the 'looked'.
Date 1: Mr. Tall and Dark
It was my first time meeting someone from a social media platform. I was excited, curious, and scared at the same time. We chatted multiple times a day, and it was fun. When he suggested we meet, I hesitated but agreed.
Mr. Tall had invited me to his house. His place was clean, well-arranged, and modern. He was very dark-skinned and gave off an aura that made me suspect he was a liar or a cheat, sorry to say. As we talked, I realized we had little in common. His taste in music was strange, and his choice of movies unappealing. Instantly, I regretted coming.
He didn’t talk much; we were mostly on our phones. I forced myself to watch the boring show on his TV. After what felt like an eternity, he leaned in for a kiss. That fast? No, sir! I had had enough. I stood up and stormed out.
Date 2: Mr. Tattoo
This time, I tried a dating website and got the courage to meet someone new. After multiple failed attempts to meet, we finally made it happen.
He sent me his location, and the name sounded like a good restaurant or hotel, or maybe I misread it. I took a bike to the location, but as we rode further, the place looked more rural. I asked the rider, and he told me the name was just a nickname to make it sound appealing. After several turns and rough roads, we arrived. There was no hotel, just a huge church, quarries, and unfinished houses.
I called Mr. Tattoo, and he emerged from one of the unfinished buildings. He led me inside, where I found a small coffee table, a bed, an empty liquor bottle, and marijuana. Angrily, I asked why he lied. He shyly responded, "I thought you wouldn’t have come if I told you the truth. I really wanted to meet you."
Annoyed, I listened to his endless stories, including one about his tattoos and an alcohol-related illness. He offered me marijuana, which I declined. Then he casually suggested watching movies on his phone. That was the last straw! I left immediately, leaving him in shock.
Date 3: Mr. Short Baby Face
After chatting for a while, he invited me to his house. Given my previous experiences, I was hesitant, but he assured me of his good intentions.
He lived in a classy neighborhood near town. As we climbed to his fourth-floor apartment, I thought about how dangerous meeting people in their homes could be. His apartment was spacious but nearly empty, just a sofa bed, two laptops, a Wi-Fi router, and speakers.
He ordered food, and we ate while playing an interesting board game. Later, we drank gin and watched a movie. He was kind, and I enjoyed his company, but we were not compatible. Despite wishing things had worked out, we eventually drifted apart.
Date 4: Mr. Really Too Short But Sweet
We frequently chatted and video-called, with him often asking about my thoughts on short men. I always reassured him that height didn’t matter.
For our date, he suggested the beach because I had mentioned my love for it; how thoughtful! When we met, he was very short but well-dressed. He worked for the navy and showed me around his training sites.
We had engaging conversations and later went swimming. I wasn’t a great swimmer, but that day changed everything. He suggested I use a floater for safety, and we swam with his friend, reaching deep-sea markers. He even caught a sea urchin and taught me about it, but he got stung.
That was our first and last date. Despite a great time, I couldn't bring myself to see him again.
Date 5: Mr. Browny
Tall, brown-skinned, and shy, Mr. Browny loved music and laughed a lot. He suggested a beach date, which thrilled me.
Unlike the previous beach, this one was livelier, with youths partying, swimming, and drinking. We walked, talked, and shared laughs. When a wave unexpectedly drenched us, we laughed it off and walked around until our clothes dried.
Though we continued talking afterward, we never met again. His style wasn’t my type, and I couldn’t force it. Maybe I should have given him a chance, what do you think?
Date 6: Prince Charming
After taking a break from online dating, I decided to check my matches and found Prince Charming’s message. We started chatting seriously and planned a date.
We met at a beautiful park. He was tall, slightly brown-skinned, and incredibly handsome. My heart skipped a beat as he approached and hugged me. We walked, admired the ocean, ate snacks, and had deep conversations. It was love at first sight.
Later, he asked for help shopping for his new job’s uniform, which I gladly did. That night, all I could think about was him. We met again for ice cream and another park walk. Everything felt perfect, but I had only two days left in that city.
On our last date, we sat under the same tree, sharing more life stories. He looked into my eyes and asked, "Would you be my girlfriend, Pheny?" I was leaving ,how would it work? I nodded, unsure. He leaned in for a kiss, and I melted. He gifted me a pretty necklace and matching bracelets for both of us.
That was the last time I saw him. We kept in touch for a few months but eventually lost contact.
Lessons Learned
Online dating never worked for me. I eventually quit and shifted my focus elsewhere. Meeting strangers in their homes is dangerous and can leave you vulnerable to bad situations. Sometimes, we meet great people, but they’re not the right fit.
The biggest lesson? Follow what you truly want. Don’t force something just because it seems right, if you don’t feel it, move on!
I'm still at Mr. Tattoo...lol
