Malon's Obsession 4

Never?!
These words rang through my mind all night. I was scared! What if he didn’t want the divorce and decided to complicate my life? I was awake, I couldn’t sleep at all. I didn’t know what to do.

Around three in the morning, I looked at my phone. An idea crossed my mind. I texted the number Malon had tricked me with.
"Hello, I know this is weird. I wanted to let you know that I confronted Kings about his secret. I told him I wanted a divorce, and he said 'never'! I feel scared now, and I don’t know what to do."
I wrote the message, wanting so badly to send it to him, but I couldn’t. Instead, I ended up texting, "I need you. Can I see you tomorrow?"
A reply popped up almost immediately.
"Yes, I will always be here for you, Phy. Always."

I regretted sending that message. What was I thinking? At 3 a.m.? This was madness. I stared at the ceiling, feeling stressed. I turned uncomfortably and decided to go out onto the balcony and watch the sky.

The night was calm and so beautiful. I felt at ease. I stayed a while, then went to get some sleep on the library bed.

I woke up and checked the time. It was 9 a.m. At least I had managed to fall asleep. I headed to the bedroom, assuming Kings had already gone out to shower. The thought of him not being around made me happy. I opened the bedroom door  and there he was! Sitting at the makeup table, playfully arranging my makeup and jewellery boxes.

“Good morning, babe!” he said with a smile, looking at me through the mirror.
I felt annoyed. I went into the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and took a bath. Then I returned to the room and dressed, carefully avoiding his gaze.

I wore a tank top that exposed part of my belly, a long bohemian skirt, and some chunky bangles. I let down my dreadlocks, sprayed some perfume, and began scanning for which shoes to wear. I picked my Gucci Crocs ,ones I hadn’t worn in a very long time.
“Here, you’ll need socks for those,” Kings said, reaching into the small wardrobe where I kept my socks.
I was beyond shocked by how foolish he was. Was this supposed to be an apology? A trick to make me forget about the divorce?

I grabbed the socks from him and put them on. “Where are you going?” he asked. I didn’t answer. I picked up a sling bag and packed a few essentials.
“Babe, I’m talking to you!” he said, his voice a little louder this time.

I turned to him. “I’m going out for a walk. I need some air. As you can see, things are a little tense in this house, and I deserve some fresh air.” I smiled.
“Let’s have breakfast before you go. I prepared your favourite,” he said, smiling back.
“I’m not hungry,” I replied with a strange smile.
“No breakfast, no leaving, babe. You have no choice,” he threatened.

I was stunned. This man doesn’t know who he’s dealing with, I thought to myself.
“Let’s get you full for your nature walk,” he said, almost angrily.
I followed him. We ate in silence. Once in a while, Kinyi came and brought more fruits, more eggs, more juice. I didn’t even bother to tell her to stop, we weren’t going to eat all that anyway.

I finished my plate, looked at Kings and said, “I’m done now. I’m leaving.”
He stood up, came to me, and helped me out of the chair. He hugged me, kissed me, and said goodbye.
Once I walked out of the gate and started walking, I noticed my heart was pounding. I was scared!

I called my dad.
“Hello! My baby remembered me today!” he answered happily.
“How are you, Dad? I hope you’re doing great.”
“I am, Phynna. Hope you are too?” he asked.

I wanted to tell him everything ,pour my heart out, but these were the times I wished my mother was here. She would know what to do, what to say, and how to fix everything.
Dad had his own problems. I didn’t want to add to them. His tech company was finally picking up, and stressing him now wouldn’t help.

“Yes, Dad. I’m doing great too. See you soon. I’m going for a calm nature walk now. I’ll call you later. Bye, Dad. I love you!”
I hung up quickly. My heart was still pounding.
I texted Malon again, "Can you send someone to pick me? I’m walking, I’m just around the corner from my place. Please."

No reply. I kept walking, drowning in confusion, when the black Jeep Mr. Lowad had picked me up in pulled up. I felt a bit of relief. The Jeep passed me, made a turn, and came back toward where I stood.
Malon stepped out.

I didn’t know what I was feeling, but I knew it was confusion and helplessness. He hugged me, walked me to the other side of the car, and helped me climb into the seat. Then he got in and drove off.
We drove in silence. I was deep in thought and didn’t even notice we were already at Mayorrs.
He led me inside, and we took a lift to his large room. We found Mr. Lowad at the door. I greeted him, and he ushered us in.

I sat on a chair facing the window.
“Tell me what’s going on, Phynna,” Malon said, looking concerned.
I told him everything. I shared how scared I was, and I started crying.
He pulled me up, brought me to where he was sitting, sat me on his lap, and started comforting me. Oddly, I started to feel relieved.

I moved from his lap and sat beside him. We looked at each other for a while.
“I’ll always be here for you. Don’t ever be scared of anything. I will sacrifice everything just to make sure you’re okay. All I need you to do is let me, Phynna. Will you?”
I wasn’t sure what he meant, but I was a hundred percent sure Kings was plotting something. So I replied, “Yes.”

He kissed my cheek, caressed my face, and smiled.
“It’s so sunny. Would you like to swim? I’m sure it would boost your mood.”
“Okay,” I replied, my voice raspy from crying.

The swim really did help. By the time we returned to the room, I was in a better mood. I took a shower and changed quickly. The room had two bathrooms, but I still found it odd.
He was still in the shower when I finished dressing.
I walked to the big windows and admired the amazing view, my mind growing clearer.

What am I even doing? Oh my God. I need to leave and handle my issues myself, I thought. But I didn’t leave.
I sat on the chair by the window and continued watching the view.
Malon came out of the shower, fully dressed, so respectful of him.

“Let’s play some music to give this room life,” he said, laughing awkwardly. I smiled, and he played some old-school blues. The first song that played was At Last by Etta James. What a choice!

He stepped out for a while and returned with two waitresses and one waiter, each carrying a tray of food. They placed them on the table, smiled at me, and left.
Malon and I ate in silence.
Afterward, I walked awkwardly to the big bed in the room to sleep. I could feel his eyes on me.

I woke up to my phone ringing. Malon wasn’t in the room.
Thirteen missed calls from Kings! It was 10:30.
I must’ve slept a lot, I had come to the bed at 2 p.m. My phone started ringing again. I picked up.
“Where are you, babe? I’ve been calling and you’re not answering!”
I didn’t know what to say.
“I’m safe. Don’t worry,” I answered.
“Expecting you back in an hour then… or just tell me where you are and I’ll come pick you!”
“I’m fine. My dad is taking care of me. I’ll be there tomorrow.”

There was silence on the line.
“I’m at your dad’s. That’s why I called!” he said angrily.
I hung up and blocked his number.

I was getting a weird feeling, fear.
About three minutes later, a text popped up, "COME HOME NOW!"
I switched off my phone.
